With the recent economic attack on Canada from the U.S. on Monday, I find myself reevaluating how to navigate our current landscape. Our nation’s sovereignty is under threat from the Trump administration.
While I may not be a veteran artist, I have always embraced creativity. I was beginning to find my footing in the artistic community, joyfully exploring platforms like Facebook and Instagram to connect with local and international artists.
But, here is the rub. All of the tools I used to connect with others were created and fenced in by Americans involved in, profiting from; and funding the Trump administration and it’s plans.
I also cannot support the idea that connecting with others is not possible without these tools. The reality is that I do not exist because of the tool, the tool exists because I use it.
In my true Canadian way, I am brainstorming ways to cultivate online independence. I will share these ideas on this blog, hoping to inspire and support you to live life in full colour, even amid uncertainty.
Sometimes decisions and taking action is hard. If it wasn’t, it would be called easy.
I eagerly anticipate moving forward artistically with my community and embracing my identity as a proud Canadian.
